Friday's Catcher Value Rankings
Here are theScore's catcher value rankings for Friday, April 15:
Value Rankings

Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Jonathan Lucroy (MIL) | at PIT | 10 |
J.T. Realmuto (MIA) | vs. ATL | 9 |
Miguel Montero (CHC) | vs. COL | 8 |
Brian McCann (NYY) | vs. SEA | 8 |
Despite going hitless on Thursday - Cardinals SP Jaime Garcia held most Brewers off-base - Lucroy remains the best option. He normally cruises against lefties and gets a less reliable one in Pirates SP Jeff Locke. Realmuto's overall sample size is small, but he hasn't struggled significantly against right-handers. Braves SP Williams Perez does not strike fear into the hearts of hitters.
Montero and McCann get favorable matchups. McCann has more power potential while Montero is the better contact hitter. Either one could easily help DFS lineups.

Mid-Tier Targets
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Stephen Vogt (OAK) | vs. KC | 7 |
Francisco Cervelli (PIT) | vs. MIL | 7 |
Matt Wieters (BAL) | at TEX | 7 |
Blake Swihart (BOS) | vs. TOR | 7 |
Jason Castro (HOU) | vs. DET | 6 |
Yan Gomes (CLE) | vs. NYM | 6 |
Vogt's injury woes could be of concern. His early struggles at the plate will come around. If he gets the day off, roll with Josh Phegley, instead. While Cervelli's batting average won't hover around .400 all year, he has developed a reputation as a decent bat. He's got some pop and hits lefties and righties about evenly.
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Travis d'Arnaud (NYM) | at CLE | 5 |
Buster Posey (SF) | at LAD | 5 |
Welington Castillo (ARI) | at SD | 5 |
Curt Casali (TB) | vs. CWS | 5 |
Posey's salary may make him look like a steal. It's not a glitch, but he can't be confidently recommended because it's Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw toeing the rubber. Posey normally owns left-handed pitching, but Kershaw is on another planet. Proceed with caution. d'Arnaud's failures at the plate thus far are mostly tied to bad luck. His .143 BABIP should veer in the opposite direction.

Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Yadier Molina (STL) | vs. CIN | 4 |
A.J. Pierzynski (ATL) | at MIA | 3 |
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (DET) | at HOU | 3 |
Josh Thole (TOR) | at BOS | 2 |
Tucker Barnhart (CIN) | at STL | 2 |
Kurt Suzuki (MIN) | vs. LAA | 1 |
Bad matchups and steep declines should keep these names off DFS rosters. Molina has lost his power stroke, which always seemed like an anomaly, anyway. Saltalamacchia has drawn Astros SP Dallas Keuchel. Salty has power from both sides of the plate, but there will be better days for him.
