Report: McHale withdraws from Kings coaching search
The Sacramento Kings' wide-ranging coaching search has been trimmed by at least one name.
Former Houston Rockets coach and basketball Hall of Famer Kevin McHale has reportedly withdrawn his name from the candidates list for the vacant Kings job, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
The news comes as a surprise when considering that McHale was reported to be the front-runner for the job just last week.
The Kings, who have cycled through nine head coaches over the last 10 years, are embarking on a search that reportedly includes names like David Blatt, Jeff Hornacek, Mark Jackson, Mike Woodson, Patrick Ewing, Ettore Messina, Nate McMillan, Vinny Del Negro, Brian Shaw, and Henry Bibby among others.
McHale was fired by the Rockets after a 4-7 start to the season, despite a Western Conference finals appearance last spring, and a 193-130 record over parts of five seasons in Houston.
