Here are theScore's second basemen value rankings for Thursday, April 28:

Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jean Segura (ARI) | vs. STL | 10 |
Dustin Pedroia (BOS) | vs. ATL | 9 |
Josh Harrison (PIT) | at COL | 8 |
Chris Coghlan (OAK) | at DET | 8 |
Segura has gone hitless just four times this season and had multi-hit nights in 10 out of 20 starts. His ceiling is raised by having some power-speed potential, but he'll mainly keep the lineup moving by getting on base (and more often than not, crossing the plate). He's also significantly cheaper than some of his high-upside contemporaries.
Pedroia has multiple hits in five of his last six games, and despite a salary on the rise, he remains a great cash-game play against the woeful Braves.
Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Ian Kinsler (DET) | vs. OAK | 7 |
Jedd Gyorko (STL) | at ARI | 7 |
Chase Utley (LAD) | vs. MIA | 6 |
Daniel Murphy (WAS) | vs. PHI | 6 |
Dee Gordon (MIA) | at LAD | 5 |
Ben Zobrist (CHC) | vs. MIL | 5 |
Brett Lawrie (CWS) | at BAL | 4 |
Gyorko has secured the edge at second base for the Cardinals based on his steady play and Kolten Wong's poor play and illness. He makes for a cheap cash-game play at Arizona's hitter-friendly park.
Gordon's OBP on the season is sitting at an ugly .287, which means he hasn't been able to show off his wheels on the basepaths. The slump has (slightly) suppressed his salary, which is a good news for those still backing him, but he's really only viable in tournament play right now.

Gennett has found some success in Milwaukee this year, but he carries a .124 batting average against lefties from 2013 to 2015 and faces Cubs' southpaw Jon Lester.
