Bayern Munich makes history with 4th consecutive Bundesliga crown

Bayern Munich remains firmly perched atop the Bundesliga.

The Bavarian side set a new German record on Saturday, clinching its fourth consecutive Bundesliga title by virtue of a 2-1 victory over Ingolstadt.

The victory sees Bayern capture its 26th Bundesliga crown - 17 more than its closest competitor, FC Nurnberg. It should help ease some of the disappointment following the club's elimination from the Champions League earlier this week at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

A pair of first-half goals from Robert Lewandowski, the first of which came from the spot, was enough for Pep Guardiola's men to pop the champagne, as a penalty from Moritz Hartmann was all Ingolstadt could muster.

With one match remaining on the campaign, Guardiola's juggernaut has recorded 85 points, losing just twice and holding an absurd goal difference of plus-61.

Though Borussia Dortmund, reinvigorated under Thomas Tuchel, pushed its perennial rival all season, Bayern's superior squad, which dealt with a host of key injuries throughout the season, was simply too strong.

It felt inevitable all year long, and now it's official: Bayern Munich stands alone in the Bundesliga record book.
