Sunday's Catcher Value Rankings

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

Here are theScore's catcher value rankings for Sunday, May 1:

Value Rankings
C
| 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP

Top Options

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Welington Castillo (ARI) vs. COL 8
J.T. Realmuto (MIA) at MIL 8

Castillo's recent power surge may have cooled slightly considering he has gone without a homer in last four games after smashing five in his previous six. But, thanks to Arizona's hitter-friendly ballpark and a matchup against SP Chad Bettis, he could be in line to show off his power once again.

Realmuto has displayed some power recently with two homers in his last six games. A matchup against SP Wily Peralta in Miller Park also works in his favor.

Mid-Tier Targets

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Nick Hundley (COL) at ARI 6
Francisco Cervelli (PIT) vs. CIN 6
Jonathan Lucroy (MIL) vs. MIA 6
Stephen Vogt (OAK) vs. HOU 6

Cervelli continues to be a cash game option with average above .300. He has also scored 11 times while knocking in 11 batters himself.

Lucroy and Vogt are two of the most expensive options at catcher, but neither has a major factor indicating an imminent big-game performance.

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Dioner Navarro (CWS) at BAL 5
David Ross (CHC) vs. ATL 5
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (DET) at MIN 5
Devin Mesoraco (CIN) at PIT 5
Geovany Soto (LAA) at TEX 5
Matt Wieters (BAL) vs. CWS 5
Wilson Ramos (WAS) at STL 5
A.J. Ellis (LAD) vs. SD 4
Yasmani Grandal (LAD) vs. SD 4
Yan Gomes (CLE) at PHI 4
Salvador Perez (KC) at SEA 4
Yadier Molina (STL) vs. WAS 4
Buster Posey (SF) at NYM 4
Kurt Suzuki (MIN) vs. DET 4

Navarro has quietly put together a nice stretch of games including a homer and a triple in back-to-back outings. Oriole Park should work in his favor assuming he hits from the left-side of the batters box.

Which Dodger catcher will start tomorrow is not clear with LHP Drew Pomeranz on the mound. Ellis has been in the lineup against lefties recently, however.

Molina and Posey get demoted Sunday due to their respective matchups against Max Scherzer and Noah Syndergaard.

Nothing to See Here

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Russell Martin (TOR) at TB 3
Christian Vazquez (BOS) vs. NYY 3
A.J. Pierzynski (ATL) at CHC 3
Chris Iannetta (SEA) vs. KC 3
Tyler Flowers (ATL) at CHC 3
Brian McCann (NYY) at BOS 3
Curt Casali (TB) vs. TOR 2
Derek Norris (SD) at LAD 2
Jason Castro (HOU) at OAK 2
John Ryan Murphy (MIN) vs. DET 2

McCann is hitting a measley .143 over his last 10 games. A matchup against LHP David Price may cause that number to sink even lower.
