Report: Carmelo would welcome Blatt hiring
Carmelo Anthony has eyes for another head coaching candidate.
Anthony would approve if the New York Knicks hired former Cleveland Cavaliers head coach David Blatt, a source tells Marc Berman of the New York Post.
The 31-year-old star reportedly also liked Tom Thibodeau for the job before the Minnesota Timberwolves signed him to a five-year deal.
The Knicks have not consulted Anthony during the coaching search so far, according to Berman.
Blatt interviewed with the Knicks two weeks ago, but the process of filling the vacancy has reportedly been put on hold while Knicks president Phil Jackson takes a holiday.
Anthony feels Blatt would be a better fit to mold Kristaps Porzingis than interim coach Kurt Rambis, Berman reports. Rambis, who's favored to take the permanent job, opined earlier this season that the 7-foot-3 Latvian sensation should play some small forward.
Porzingis wasn't happy with his usage under Rambis initially, but eventually warmed up to his coach, sources also told Berman.
Following a successful career in Europe, Blatt led the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals in his first year as an NBA coach. His record sits at 83-40 over parts of two seasons.
Rambis holds a lifetime coaching record of 65-164 across stops in Los Angeles, Minnesota, and New York.
