7 crazy things that shouldn't have happened at end of Thunder-Spurs

Soobum Im-USA TODAY Sports

Rules are meant to be broken.

Just ask the Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs about their antics in the final 13.5 seconds of Monday's 98-97 OKC win, which tied their Western Conference semifinal at one game apiece.

1. Ginobili out of bounds

Before all hell broke loose, Manu Ginobili encroached the sideline with his foot, with his arms also breaking the out-of-bounds plane. This is an automatic technical foul. The non-call possibly triggered the ensuing reaction by Dion Waiters.

2. Waiters shoves Ginobili

Elbowing an opposing player in the chest is usually frowned upon in the sport of basketball, but it's even more vexing when the referee (No. 8, Marc Davis, foreground) is watching it from mere feet away and does not call a foul.

3. Waiters also jumps on inbounds pass

Missed the shove? How about the jump by Waiters on the throw, something also illegal for the inbounding player to do.

4. Leonard appears to hold Westbrook

As Russell Westbrook tried to cut in front of the inbounds play, Kawhi Leonard held on to the back of his jersey for approximately two seconds.

5. Time comes off clock before ball is caught

6. Fan interferes with Adams

One only has to recall the Malice at the Palace to remember the danger of fans interfering with players. After the inbounds pass was recovered by the Spurs, they took an ill-fated attempt at a game-winning shot. Following his closeout on Patty Mills' 3-point try, Thunder center Steven Adams found himself close to the first row of seats, and being held onto by a fan.

The normally good-humored Kiwi was understandably not impressed.

7. Ibaka gets away with foul on Aldridge

As the clock wound down with a scramble for the ball under the basket, LaMarcus Aldridge almost had his jersey ripped off by Serge Ibaka. "I thought he had a good chunk of my jersey," Aldridge said afterward, according to ESPN's Michael C. Wright. "I thought there were some things happening that maybe shouldn't have happened. But it's over now. You can't keep harping on it."
