Heat tie franchise record with 11 turnovers in 1st quarter

Butterfingers doesn't begin to describe what overcame the Miami Heat in the first quarter of Game 2 against the Toronto Raptors on Thursday night.

The Heat treated the basketball like it was the flaming orb from their logo and they forgot their oven mitts at home. Miami coughed it up 11 times in the first quarter alone, matching a franchise record for turnovers in any playoff quarter.

That's how the Heat found themselves trailing by double-digits at the start of the second, despite having shot 8-of-13 from the field. They attempted 14 fewer field goals than the Raptors, and since eight of the Heat's turnovers were of the live-ball variety, Toronto was able to convert them into 12 points.

Miami's guards did most of the damage. Dwyane Wade led the way with four giveaways, while Goran Dragic had three.

The Heat cleaned things up in the second frame, turning it over just once.
