Tuesday's Starting Pitcher Value Rankings

Steve Mitchell / USA TODAY Sports

Here are theScore's starting pitcher value rankings for Tuesday, May 10 (all stats exclude Monday's games):

Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP

Top Options

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Jacob deGrom (NYM) at LAD 9
Kyle Hendricks  (CHC) vs. SD 8

The 27-year-old deGrom has yet to go further than six innings due to an early season injury. His 1.99 ERA in to go along with a 3-1 record in four games makes him an automatic top option, however, the opportunity to pitch in one of the safest pitching ballparks should be enough evidence to expose your lineup around.

Hendricks will toe the rubber for the Cubs but owns a 2-2 record despite the team only losing six games. He has registered a solid 1.00 WHIP and has faced explosive offenses from the likes of the Rockies, Diamondbacks and Cardinals. During those games, the Cubs failed to supply run support. With a plus matchup, expect Hendricks to return a plethora of value.

Mid-Tier Targets

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Joe Ross (WAS) vs. DET 7
Drew Smyly (TB) at SEA 7
Kevin Gausman (BAL) at MIN 7
Hector Santiago (LAA) vs. STL 7
Masahiro Tanaka (NYY) vs. KC 7

Tanaka and Santiago all have high-floors and are solid cash game options. Ross and Gausman have the highest upside and could return their middling salary with ease.

Smyly has been nearly unhittable to start the season, registering a 2.72 ERA and 0.78 WHIP backed up by a mind-boggling 10.6 K/9 and terrific 26.2 K/BB percentage. He faces a scorching hot Mariners lineup, which limits his value.

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Matt Wisler (ATL) vs. PHI 6
Carlos Rodon (CWS) at TEX 6
Adam Conley (MIA) vs. MIL 6
Chris Devenski (HOU) vs. CLE 6
Colin Rea (SD) at CHC 6
J.A. Happ (TOR) at SF 6
Wade Miley (SEA) vs. TB 6

Wisler owns a remarkable 0.90 WHIP and 2.66 K/BB percentage despite pitching for the lowly Braves. His deception makes it difficult for the hitter to make solid contact, which should work in his favor against the overachieving Phillies.

Miley pitched nine shutout innings where he only allowed five hits. The southpaw's return was enormous, but DFS owners shouldn't justify paying up for him based on one performance. He doesn't have much strikeout upside, but a struggling Rays offense and run support from the red-hot Mariners' bats should be all he needs to pick up a win.

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Trevor Bauer (CLE) at HOU 5
Derek Holland (TEX) vs. CWS 5
Juan Nicasio (PIT) at CIN 5
Kris Medlen (KC) at NYY 5
Alex Wood (LAD) vs. NYM 5
Mike Leake (STL) at LAA 5
Adam Morgan (PHI) at ATL 5

With the Globe of Life Park in Arlington known to work in favor of hitters, southpaw Holland's value takes a hit. Before he was pelted by the Blue Jays for 11 runs in his latest start, he owned an impressive 2.48 ERA. Though it has inflated to 5.40, he's worth a buy-low flier against a left-heavy White Sox lineup.

The Yankees, as a team, are hitting .232, giving Medlen a slight edge. The short porch of Yankee Stadium is nothing to flirt with when choosing your starting pitcher(s), but if you want another stellar buy-low option, Medlen would need a win and allow a couple of earned runs to return his minuscule salary.

Nothing to See Here

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Matt Cain (SF) vs. TOR 4
Phil Hughes (MIN) vs. BAL 4
Michael Fulmer (DET) at WAS 3
Sean Manaea (OAK) at BOS 3
Alfredo Simon (CIN) vs. PIT 3
Sean O'Sullivan (BOS) at OAK 3
Chris Rusin (COL) vs. ARI 2
Rubby De La Rosa (ARI) at COL 2

Cain's abysmal start to the season doesn't bode well for him when the Blue Jays' lineup roll into town. He has shown no signs of improving, so a stack of Blue Jays could pay dividends.

Fulmer and Manaea will make their third big league starts on Tuesday, but both have been roughed up during their first major league stints. Leave them alone against potent offenses.
