Here are theScore's second baseman value rankings for Tuesday, May 30 (all stats exclude Monday's games):

Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP

Top Options

Name Opponent Value
Aaron Hill (MIL) vs. STL 9
Daniel Murphy (WAS) at PHI 9
Steve Pearce (TB) at KC 8
Devon Travis (TOR) vs. NYY 8
Ian Kinsler (DET) at LAA 8
Ben Zobrist (CHC) vs. LAD 8

Hill is hitting .400 over his last 10 while also drawing nine walks versus four Ks. The two home runs came in one game, so the power can't really be counted on, but he comes cheaper than most at the position. Murphy is unreal. He can't slow down and is still making contact with almost everything in the strike zone.

Pearce is valued a bit higher as a second baseman than he is at first, where is often eligible as well. The competition is a bit thinner and if he can hone his power stroke, he'll be relatively affordable. Travis is the big bargain as his salary remains low despite having a hit in all of his games since being activated.

Mid-Tier Targets

Name Opponent Value
Robinson Cano (SEA) vs. SD 7
Dustin Pedroia (BOS) at BAL 7
Jason Kipnis (CLE) vs. TEX 7
Joe Panik (SF) at ATL 7
Yangervis Solarte (SD) at SEA 7
Neil Walker (NYM) vs. CWS 6
Brandon Phillips (CIN) at COL 6
Johnny Giavotella (LAA) vs. DET 6

Cano is just outside the top options because of their lofty salaries and he has had much better numbers away from Seattle. Kipnis has been outstanding against right-handed pitching, and should find success against Rangers SP Colby Lewis. Panik is seemingly healthy and won't cost as much as many of his peers. Even though Braves RHP Matt Wisler has performed admirably, he shouldn't be much of a deterrent.

Name Opponent Value
Jose Altuve (HOU) at ARI 5
Jed Lowrie (OAK) vs. MIN 5
Starlin Castro (NYY) at TOR 5
DJ LeMahieu (COL) vs. CIN 5
Whit Merrifield (KC) vs. TB 5
Chase Utley (LAD) at CHC 5
Wilmer Flores (NYM) vs. CWS 5

Altuve's recent struggles will not last, and he always has the potential to break out. His batting average against LHP has been excellent, but he hasn't hit for power and he's also been held out of the steals column against southpaws for the most part. LeMahieu has been empty hits with the odd run. His lack of power limits his upside, but if he gets on base, he has ability to score.

Nothing to See Here

Name Opponent Value
Brian Dozier (MIN) at OAK 4
Jean Segura (ARI) vs. HOU 4
Brett Lawrie (CWS) at NYM 4
Jedd Gyorko (STL) at MIL 3
Howie Kendrick (LAD) at CHC 3
Chase d'Arnaud (ATL) vs. SF 3
Scooter Gennett (MIL) vs. STL 2
Kolten Wong (STL) at MIL 2

Segura has fallen into a hole since a sleek beginning and Dozier still hasn't climbed out of his. Kendrick has righted his ship, but he's best avoided against Cubs SP Jake Arrieta. Don't trust in d'Arnaud despite his solid numbers in limited action. It reeks of BABIP luck and he's yet to hit a home run, so it's paying for hits and not much else.
