Report: Ventura trade talks are 'utter nonsense'

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Yordano Ventura may have a home in Kansas City after all.

One day after Ventura incited a benches-clearing brawl by beaning Manny Machado of the Baltimore Orioles, a report surfaced suggesting the Royals had offered up the 25-year-old pitcher in trade talks.

A source close to the situation tells MLB.com's Jeffrey Flanagan the report is "complete and utter nonsense."

Flanagan reached out to Royals general manager Dayton Moore for comment about a potential trade, but the executive wouldn't divulge any information about a deal for the fiery Dominican right-hander.

"It's highly inappropriate and reckless to discuss any specific trade talks about players with the media," Moore explained to Flanagan. "Any discussions along those lines will remain with our baseball operations people. I will not discuss it."

Moore did offer his opinion on Ventura's actions from Tuesday, though, which have become an all-too-familiar occurance for the pitcher.

"We don't condone it," Moore said. "We don't want to see anyone get hurt. But it happens in baseball and has since the beginning.

"You teach your pitchers to be able to command both sides of the plate with their fastball. Obviously we don't want to see what happened last night, and we don't want to see anyone get hurt."

Ventura's ERA is at a current career-high of 5.32, while his strikeouts per nine innings (6.0) have declined and his walks per nine innings (4.8) have risen.
