Saturday's Catcher Value Rankings
Here are theScore's catcher value rankings for Saturday, June 11 (all stats exclude Friday's games):

Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Bobby Wilson (TEX) | at SEA | 10 |
Yadier Molina (STL) | at PIT | 9 |
Stephen Vogt (OAK) | at CIN | 9 |
Buster Posey (SF) | vs. LAD | 8 |
Derek Norris (SD) | at COL | 8 |
Yasmani Grandal (LAD) | at SF | 8 |
Wilson is nearly half the price of the position leaders in salary, yet has more or less claimed full-time catcher status for the Rangers. The bump in responsibility is completely merited. Over his last 10 games, Wilson has slashed .324/.351/.412 in 34 at-bats. At his current price point, he'll only need to get on base once or twice to return cash-game value.
Posey has had an off-season by his high standards but he'll still have a big advantage against lefty Scott Kazmir on Saturday. Posey has hit .313 with an .881 OPS against LHPs since the start of the 2013 season. Even at home at AT&T Park, Posey still has some of the best extra-base power at his position, making him a high-end tournament option.
Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jonathan Lucroy (MIL) | vs. NYM | 7 |
Salvador Perez (KC) | at CWS | 7 |
Miguel Montero (CHC) | at ATL | 7 |
J.T. Realmuto (MIA) | at ARI | 6 |
Evan Gattis (HOU) | at TB | 6 |
Hank Conger (TB) | vs. HOU | 6 |
Francisco Cervelli (PIT) | vs. STL | 5 |
Russell Martin (TOR) | vs. BAL | 5 |
Steve Clevenger (SEA) | vs. TEX | 5 |
Nick Hundley (COL) | vs. SD | 5 |
With the way this season has unfolded, Lucroy arguably has the best power-profile of any catcher today, especially when he plays at home at Miller Park -- a veritable bandbox. His recent performance puts him in a price tier all by himself, which will create problems if he doesn't have a big night. He'll face Mets swingman Logan Verrett, who hasn't given up a homer in three starts.
Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Brian McCann (NYY) | vs. DET | 4 |
Dioner Navarro (CWS) | vs. KC | 4 |
Welington Castillo (ARI) | vs. MIA | 4 |
Yan Gomes (CLE) | at LAA | 3 |
Kevin Plawecki (NYM) | at MIL | 3 |
Christian Vazquez (BOS) | at MIN | 3 |
Josh Phegley (OAK) | at CIN | 2 |
Matt Wieters (BAL) | at TOR | 2 |
Carlos Perez (LAA) | vs. CLE | 2 |
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (DET) | at NYY | 1 |
A.J. Pierzynski (ATL) | vs. CHC | 1 |
Kurt Suzuki (MIN) | vs. BOS | 1 |
McCann has the splits advantage against Tigers ace Justin Verlander, but the former MVP and Cy Young winner has only given up 10 earned runs in his last five starts. It's unlikely that the declining talents of the Yankees' sluggers will knock Verlander around with a .160 batting average over their last 10 games. McCann isn't going to be an offense unto himself, either.
