Saturday's Catcher Value Rankings

Joe Nicholson / USA TODAY Sports

Here are theScore's catcher value rankings for Saturday, June 18 (all stats exclude Friday's games):

Value Rankings

Top Options

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Wilson Ramos (WAS) at SD 9
Buster Posey (SF) at TB 9
Brian McCann (NYY) at MIN 8

A hefty price point will likely lead to a low-ownership on Ramos, but given his juicy matchup and terrific form, he's the best option. He has multi-hit games in three of his past four contests with two long balls and three RBIs. Pay up for him or one of the other options considering the thin crop at the catcher position.

Posey, similar to Ramos, is among the priciest options at the catcher position. He was swinging a hot bat in his most recent series against the Brewers, going 8-for-12 with four runs and three RBIs. Unfortunately for him, only one of those hits went for an extra base. He has failed to hit a homer in nine games, so as long as he keeps producing in other ways, he boasts plenty of value.

McCann's significantly lower cost makes him a viable selection given his career success against Twins' erratic RHP Ricky Nolasco. McCann is 21-for-62 against Nolasco, with 13 of those hits going for extra bases and the other eight for home runs. He offers budget relief and is an attractive play in all formats.

Mid-Tier Targets

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Russell Martin (TOR) at BAL 7
Salvador Perez (KC) vs. DET 7
Jonathan Lucroy (MIL) at LAD 6
Matt Wieters (BAL) vs. TOR 6
Yadier Molina (STL) vs. TEX 6
Stephen Vogt (OAK) vs. LAA 6
Chris Herrmann (ARI) at PHI 5
J.T. Realmuto (MIA) vs. COL 5
Robinson Chirinos (TEX) at STL 5
Chris Iannetta (SEA) at BOS 5

Martin is heating up with the weather, raising his average to .215 on the season and .321 in the past ten games. He still sports a hideous 28.0 strikeout percentage, but all signs are beginning to point toward that number regressing. His 9.0 walk percentage and .300 OBP are returning to normal, but he remains a tournament-only play.

The Diamondbacks have been platooning their catchers, with Herrmann crushing right-handed pitching at a .278 clip compared to Welington Castillo's .223. Herrmann is expected to backstop the D-Backs Saturday against Phillies RHP Jerad Eickhoff.

Nothing to See Here

NAME OPPONENT VALUE
Jarrod Saltalamacchia (DET) at KC 4
Yan Gomes (CLE) vs. CWS 4
Evan Gattis (HOU) vs. CIN 3
Derek Norris (SD) vs. WAS 3
Miguel Montero (CHC) vs. PIT 2
Jason Castro (HOU) vs. CIN 2

Saltalamacchia's woes at the dish continue, as he is a dreadful 21-for-110; however, he has hit seven homers while slashing .267/.333/.633 on the road. Even though the split favors him, the pitcher-friendly Kauffman Stadium hinders his daily fantasy value.

Gattis is 0-for-12 in his last four outings and owns a .210 average. It's best to leave him alone.
