Here are theScore's second baseman value rankings for Saturday, June 18 (all stats exclude Friday's games):

Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Robinson Cano (SEA) | at BOS | 9 |
Daniel Murphy (WAS) | at SD | 9 |
Ian Kinsler (DET) | at KC | 8 |
Steve Pearce (TB) | vs. SF | 8 |
Logan Forsythe (TB) | vs. SF | 8 |
Murphy and Cano are having banner seasons, which has been delightful for fantasy owners. With plus matchups against mediocre pitching, expect these elite hitters to return their hefty costs with ease.
While pricey, it's extremely tough to not have Kinsler in one of your lineups. It's amazing how his strikeout rate is 16.8 percent yet he owns a fantastic .312 average with 14 homers. Though his power has come in spurts, he is consistently getting on base, as his .366 OBP suggests.
Since Forsythe has returned from injury, he has three extra-base hits and seven strikeouts. His teammate, Pearce, is eligible at 1B and 2B and has been scorching hot throughout June, hitting .514. Both are significantly cheaper than the other top options, but lack a high floor.
Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jose Altuve (HOU) | vs. CIN | 7 |
Ben Zobrist (CHC) | vs. PIT | 7 |
Jason Kipnis (CLE) | vs. CWS | 7 |
Dustin Pedroia (BOS) | vs. SEA | 7 |
Jean Segura (ARI) | at PHI | 6 |
Neil Walker (NYM) | at ATL | 6 |
Johnny Giavotella (LAA) | at OAK | 6 |
DJ LeMahieu (COL) | at MIA | 6 |
Joe Panik (SF) | at TB | 6 |
Brett Lawrie (CWS) | at CLE | 6 |
Devon Travis (TOR) | at BAL | 6 |
Rougned Odor (TEX) | at STL | 6 |
Brandon Phillips (CIN) | at HOU | 5 |
Jonathan Schoop (BAL) | vs. TOR | 5 |
Derek Dietrich (MIA) | vs. COL | 5 |
Josh Harrison (PIT) | at CHC | 5 |
Starlin Castro (NYY) | at MIN | 5 |
Altuve is a terrific fantasy producer, but his DFS cost is far too expensive to risk against his lack of power this season. He has belted just one homer in his last 38 contests, but owned an exceptional .864 OPS through that same span. He's one of the most respected hitters at the position, but there is a chance he fails to return value.
After struggling most of May and in early June, Segura has settled into his own and is swinging a consistent bat. In his last seven contests, Segura has gone 12-for-28 and three of his last four games have been of the multi-hit kind. His counting stats won't improve all that much, but as long as his average is healthy, he's an intriguing GPP option.
Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jurickson Profar (TEX) | at STL | 4 |
Brian Dozier (MIN) | vs. NYY | 4 |
Jed Lowrie (OAK) | vs. LAA | 3 |
Chase Utley (LAD) | vs. MIL | 3 |
Scooter Gennett (MIL) | at LAD | 3 |
Cesar Hernandez (PHI) | vs. ARI | 2 |
Profar could make his way into the lineup on Saturday after sitting the past two days, but don't count on it. With Odor back in the lineup and no DH spot, it's highly unlikely he will man the keystone.
