Daily Fantasy Dose: Bringing Back Buchholz a Boon For Chicago's Bats

Here is a look at the MLB daily fantasy picture for Tuesday, June 21:
Top Stack Options
- Chicago White Sox (at Boston Red Sox): Welcome back, Clay Buchholz! The embattled Boston hurler returns to the rotation for what could be a brief stay, especially facing the power behind 3B Todd Frazier's and 1B Jose Abreu's bats. Add in generally affordable OF Melky Cabrera or SS Tim Anderson and this stack is primed to rake.
3-player stack: Frazier, Abreu, Anderson
5-player stack: Frazier, Abreu, Anderson, Cabrera, Brett Lawrie
- Washington Nationals (at Los Angeles Dodgers): While the Nationals couldn't build on their impressive .809 team OPS versus lefties against Dodgers SP Clayton Kershaw, Tuesday's starter Scott Kazmir will be a different story. While OF Bryce Harper may be borderline prohibitively expensive, his teammates aren't. A small stack without him is viable.
3-player stack: Daniel Murphy, Jayson Werth, Wilson Ramos
5-player stack: Harper, Murphy, Werth, Ramos, Anthony Rendon
- Houston Astros (vs. Los Angeles Angels): With the Astros being common targets for streaming pitchers because of the high strikeout rate, it's easy to forget that this team has massive thunder in the bats. As such, they carry lofty price tags among the elite. Pair two of their top names with C Evan Gattis, who is less expensive, for excellent power upside.
3-player stack: Gattis, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa
5-player stack: Gattis, Altuve, Correa, George Springer, Carlos Gomez
Top Bargain Plays
-
OF Lorenzo Cain, Royals (at Mets): Even against an elite starter like Mets SP Noah Syndergaard, Cain's salary is taking too drastic a hit on some sites. He has three multi-hit games over his last four starts. He's best used in tournaments for his upside because there is an obvious chance he goes hitless against Syndergaard.
UPDATE: Syndergaard has been replaced with SP Bartolo Colon. This makes Cain a must-roster at his salary.
- 3B Juan Uribe, Indians (vs. Rays): Ever since taking one where no one ever wants to take one, Uribe has been a man possessed at the plate. In three games since his injury, he has gone 6-for-13 with three home runs and six RBIs. While a fourth consecutive game with a dinger isn't a lock, his price remains low.
- C Tucker Barnhart, Reds (at Rangers): Rangers SP Colby Lewis has a quality start in 12 of the 14 times he's taken the mound. Lewis also pitches primarily to contact and has been largely buoyed by a top-notch infield defense. Barnhart could easily take advantage of his solid contact rates - only making soft contact 8.9 percent of the time.
Top Contrarian Options
- SP Ian Kennedy, Royals (at Mets): This seems like it could be a trap game on both ends. Relying too much on the Mets' offense, even against a struggling pitcher like Kennedy, is unwise. Kennedy has not pitched well over his last three starts, allowing 16 earned runs in 18 1/3 innings. His ownership will be low, but he has solid GPP upside against the Mets.
- 1B Freddie Freeman, Braves (at Marlins): With Marlins SP Jose Fernandez on the mound, Freeman will be ignored. Freeman is hitting .429 over his last 10 games with three home runs and, somehow, nine RBIs. He went 4-for-5 with two doubles in his last game and hasn't fared poorly against Fernandez in the past.
- SS/3B Eduardo Nunez, Twins (vs. Phillies): For quite some time, Nunez represented an underpriced overachiever. Naturally, with Nunez's salary finally hitting a course correction, he became overpriced and rarely lived up to the expectations. Phillies SP Aaron Nola has stumbled recently, and Nunez has seen his price tag slightly drop. He's a GPP flier.
