Wednesday's First Baseman/DH Value Rankings
Here are theScore's first baseman/DH value rankings for Wednesday, June 22 (all stats exclude Tuesday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Chris Davis (BAL) | vs. SD | 8 |
Paul Goldschmidt (ARI) | at TOR | 8 |
Edwin Encarnacion (TOR) | vs. ARI | 8 |
Logan Morrison (TB) | at CLE | 7 |
Davis is strikeout prone, but he stands a great chance of going yard against RHP Erik Johnson, who has allowed 10 home runs in four starts.
Batting .365 against lefties this year, Goldschmidt should thrive in a hitter's park against lefty J.A. Happ, who, while solid, has suffered a few blowups at the Rogers Centre. Likewise in that matchup, Encarnacion should continue his hot hitting against LHP Robbie Ray.

Ryan Howard (PHI) | at MIN | 5 |
Chris Carter (MIL) | at OAK | 5 |
Kendrys Morales (KC) | at NYM | 5 |
Ryan Zimmerman (WAS) | at LAD | 5 |
It's hard to ignore Freeman, who has multi-hit games in five of his last seven, despite facing a fellow lefty in Adam Conley.
Rizzo and Myers are the priciest options at the position; while they've both been performing well of late and have favorable pitching matchups, it's still difficult to live up to their outlays.
it won't take much for Davis to return value, as he's set to face homer-prone RHP Jon Gray at Yankee Stadium. Davis has fared much better against righties for his career.
Lefty-batting Howard should see the DH role in Minnesota, but he's slightly too pricey to provide much value.
Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Eric Hosmer (KC) | at NYM | 4 |
John Jaso (PIT) | vs. SF | 3 |
Matt Adams (STL) | at CHC | 3 |
Brandon Moss (STL) | at CHC | 2 |
While Adams and Moss have dramatically reduced prices, they still ultimately face Cubs ace Jake Arrieta. Poor pitching matchups doom the other names listed here.
