Wednesday's Second Baseman Value Rankings
Here are theScore's second baseman value rankings for Wednesday, June 22 (all stats exclude Tuesday's games):
Value Rankings

Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Devon Travis (TOR) | vs. ARI | 9 |
Daniel Murphy (WAS) | at LAD | 8 |
Brian Dozier (MIN) | vs. PHI | 7 |
Travis batted second in the order on Tuesday, and entered that game red hot, collecting eight hits in his previous four outings, with two home runs and seven RBIs. He's one of the more affordable members of the Blue Jays' newly-potent lineup, and faces hittable lefty Robbie Ray.
Murphy comes at a slight discount, and is on a five-game hit streak, though his run and RBI contributions of late haven't been eye-popping. Dozier has back-to-back games with two hits and two runs scored, and is part of a Twins offense which could break out against struggling lefty Adam Morgan.

Jason Kipnis (CLE) | vs. TB | 6 |
DJ LeMahieu (COL) | at NYY | 6 |
Scooter Gennett (MIL) | at OAK | 6 |
Logan Forsythe (TB) | at CLE | 6 |
Joe Panik (SF) | at PIT | 6 |
Ian Kinsler (DET) | vs. SEA | 6 |
Johnny Giavotella (LAA) | at HOU | 6 |
Andres Blanco (PHI) | at MIN | 6 |
Chase Utley (LAD) | vs. WAS | 5 |
Starlin Castro (NYY) | vs. COL | 5 |
Jed Lowrie (OAK) | vs. MIL | 5 |
Neil Walker (NYM) | vs. KC | 5 |
Chase d'Arnaud (ATL) | at MIA | 5 |
Brett Lawrie (CWS) | at BOS | 5 |
Schoop's price has hit a new level based on both his strong performance this season (12 home runs, 41 RBIs) and a matchup with RHP Erik Johnson, who holds a 7.66 ERA and has allowed at least two long balls in each of his four starts. Were he priced at the mid-tier, he'd easily be a Top Option.
Prior to being called up mid-June, Schimpf had homered 15 times in 51 Triple-A games. Available at a near-minimum price, lefty-batting Schimpf has a chance at his first MLB home run Wednesday.
Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Brandon Phillips (CIN) | at TEX | 4 |
Josh Harrison (PIT) | vs. SF | 4 |
Robinson Cano (SEA) | at DET | 3 |
Whit Merrifield (KC) | at NYM | 3 |
Matt Carpenter (STL) | at CHC | 3 |
Despite a reduced price, a healthy respect for Detroit RHP Michael Fulmer (just one earned run allowed over his last five starts) lands Cano here. The Tigers' hittable bullpen offers some hope, but it's still a risk to roster Cano.
