Report: Kings, Sixers interested in Dion Waiters
Two of the NBA's most beleaguered teams are looking to turn their fortunes around next season, and both are reportedly hoping Dion Waiters can help.
The Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings are interested in signing Waiters to an offer sheet, Michael Scotto of the Associated Press reports.
The 24-year-old shooting guard, who hails from Philadelphia, is set to become a restricted free agent. The Oklahoma City Thunder own his matching rights. but it's unclear how much salary (if any) they're willing to match, given they have Kevin Durant's free agency looming and will be effectively capped out if they're able to re-sign him.
Waiters rebuilt some of his value with the Thunder last season - and particularly in the playoffs - proving that in the right environment, he can be a valuable role player who stays engaged on defense and plays within his limits. Whether the Kings or Sixers can coax the same kind of disciplined play out of him is another matter.
Waiters finished the season averaging 9.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and two assists, while shooting 35.8 percent from 3-point range off the bench. The Sixers are reportedly also interested in another polarizing, restricted free agent wing in Harrison Barnes.
