Report: Raptors, DeRozan agree to 5-year contract
DeMar DeRozan and the Toronto Raptors left no room for suspense.
Just two hours after midnight on July 1, the two sides reportedly agreed to terms on a five-year contract worth more than $139 million, according to The Vertical's Shams Charania.
DeRozan, who has spent his entire seven-year career in Toronto, averaged a career-high 23.5 points per game to go along with 4.5 rebounds, four assists, and a steal while suiting up in 78 games for the 56-win Raptors in 2015-16.
The 26-year-old has often come under fire for his throwback offensive game, which sees the majority of his field-goal attempts come from the mid-range and long-two areas, but his ability to get to the free-throw line is almost unmatched over the last three seasons, and has been a key component in the Raptors' high-powered offense.
DeRozan, a two-time All-Star, is also among the most durable stars in the league, missing five games or less in six of his seven pro seasons.
While never a potent a 3-point threat, DeRozan did knock down a more respectable 33.8 percent of his long-range attempts this past season.

The Raptors likely won't have much, if any, cap space to work with, but they could still have exceptions to utilize in the event they remain over the cap.
Teams can't officially sign players until the NBA's moratorium is lifted on July 7.
