It's a $31.5-million contract in total, and Nielsen leaves New York after spending his entire career with the Islanders.
Nielsen is 32 and coming off a season that saw him score 20 goals and add 32 assists. His 52 points were the second-highest total of his career.
#RedWings Nielsen: With departure of Datsyuk, I saw a good fit for me. He's obviously going to be tough to replace.
