One of the stars of Euro 2016, Leonardo Bonucci, stepped up from Antonio Conte's back three on Saturday to draw Italy level with Germany from the penalty spot.
Bonucci's conversion from 12 yards was awarded by referee Viktor Kassai when Jerome Boateng clearly handballed in the area.
The 78th-minute equaliser cancelled out Mesut Ozil's opener, and left an enthralling battle finely poised nearing the end of 90 minutes.
