Report: Curry texts, West call helped convince Durant to join Warriors

Following Kevin Durant's meeting with the Golden State Warriors on July 1, two key follow-ups apparently helped convince him to make the league-altering choice to join the team. One was a previously reported phone call from Dubs advisor and NBA legend Jerry West, and the other was a series of texts from Stephen Curry, according to ESPN's Marc J. Spears.

Curry stressed the team's unselfish nature and said he didn't care who the face of the franchise was or which player sold more shoes, a source who saw the messages told Spears:

The two-time NBA MVP also told Durant that if Durant won the MVP award again he would be in the front row of the press conference clapping for him. In closing, Curry’s message to Durant was that all he truly cared about was winning championships and he'd like to do that as his teammate.

Curry is Under Armour's signature star and Durant is with Nike - which, according to ESPN's Zach Lowe, is excited to have Durant in the Bay Area market.

"We told him he didn’t have to change who he is," Warriors forward Draymond Green told ESPN. "He doesn't have to change how he plays. We will get him shots. If he shot 40 percent from 3-point line contested, how would he shoot wide open?"
