James Tomkins has made the short journey from Stratford to Croydon to join Crystal Palace for £10 million.
The defender joined the West Ham United academy at just seven years old, so in joining the Eagles on a five-year contract, ends a 20-year association with the Irons.
Tomkins also reunites with manager Alan Pardew, under whom he played while working his way up the West Ham youth ranks.
"I'm really pleased James has agreed to join us," said chairman Steve Parish. "He's someone Alan has always wanted to sign from his own days at West Ham. I'm sure he is destined to become a huge part of our team as we look to build on the progress the club has made over the last six years.
"It's been a really positive transfer window so far, everyone has worked really hard to make these deals happen and I think we are much stronger because of them."
Crystal Palace has already strengthened itself with goalkeeper Steve Mandanda and Andros Townsend, and efforts are still being made to bring in a striker after Michy Batshuayi opted to join Antonio Conte's Chelsea over a move to Selhurst Park.
Tomkins, who's adept both at centre-back and right-back, made 25 appearances in the top flight last season and successfully overcame a calf issue that sidelined him for almost two months. He'll compete with Scott Dann and veteran Damien Delaney for a spot in the middle of Pardew's back four, and will provide cover on the right after winger Michail Antonio was often called upon to fill that void last season.
