The Cleveland Indians have traded infielder Michael Martinez to the Boston Red Sox for cash, MLB announced.
Martinez was designated for assignment last weekend.
In 32 games this season, he batted .283/.306/.383 with one homer and 13 strikeouts.
Over his six-year career spent between the Indians, the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the Philadelphia Phillies, Martinez is slashing a .199/.244/.272 with six home runs.
The Red Sox designated infielder Sean Coyle for assignment to make room for Martinez on the 40-man roster, according to the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham.
