It's not the worst-case scenario, but it's still not good news.
The Boston Red Sox placed Craig Kimbrel on the 15-day disabled list, as the closer's will undergo surgery to repair a medial meniscus tear in his left knee, the team announced Saturday. He's expected to miss three-to-six weeks while recovering.
The news comes a day after the club announced it acquired Brad Ziegler, a solid bullpen option, from the Arizona Diamondbacks. He won't be active for Saturday's game.
Kimbrel tweaked his knee during pregame warmups Friday against the Tampa Bay Rays. He was made unavailable during the ninth inning of the 6-5 win.
In his first season with the Red Sox, Kimbrel owns a 3.55 ERA in 33 innings, notching 50 strikeouts and 15 walks.
