Top Options
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jose Quintana (CWS) | vs. ATL | 9 |
Max Scherzer (WAS) | at NYM | 9 |
Lance McCullers (HOU) | vs. OAK | 8 |
Quintana has had a couple of rough outings of late -- four earned runs versus the Twins, six at Boston, five at Detroit -- but has also demonstrated 10-K potential and pitches at least six innings in most starts. Atlanta has a disastrous .619 OPS against left-handed pitchers, so Quintana's baseline is probably a quality start with seven strikeouts; the upside is far greater.
McCullers has a 1.97 ERA in 100 1/3 career innings at home but a 5.06 ERA on the road. He gets to face an Athletics lineup that ranks third-last in the majors with a .683 OPS vs. righties.

Mid-Tier Targets
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Jon Lester (CHC) | at PIT | 7 |
Brandon McCarthy (LAD) | vs. SD | 7 |
Carlos Martinez (STL) | at MIL | 6 |
Lester imploded in his last start, giving up eight earned runs in just 1 and 1/3 innings against the Mets. There's no chance he's that bad again, but DFS owners should give him a start before trusting against in his usually dependable floor.
Martinez has a great 1.46 ERA over his last seven starts and a career 1.34 ERA at Miller Park. The only thing preventing him from hitting his ceiling are low strikeout totals. CarMart has only struck out a batter or more per inning pitched in five of his 16 starts this season, so don't count on him approaching high-level tournament value.

Nothing to See Here
NAME | OPPONENT | VALUE |
---|---|---|
Julio Teheran (ATL) | at CWS | 4 |
Jerad Eickhoff (PHI) | at COL | 3 |
CC Sabathia (NYY) | at CLE | 2 |
Teheran has been dealing with a thigh issue, which pushed him back from his previously scheduled start. The Braves won't hesitate to yank him from the game if it flares up again.
Sabathia has given up at least five earned runs in three straight starts, and Cleveland has been red-hot. Keep him far away from your lineup.
