Holt limps off field with ankle injury after awkward slide

Red / Vine

Boston Red Sox outfielder Brock Holt left Friday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays in the fourth inning with an ankle injury after a slide into second base went wrong.

Holt appeared to twist his ankle in awkward fashion while trying to steal second and was replaced by Bryce Brentz after being escorted off the field by a trainer and manager John Farrell.

X-rays on Holt, who was seen in a walking boot, came back negative and he was diagnosed with a Grade 1 left ankle sprain. He'll be re-evaluated Saturday.

The 28-year-old Holt has only appeared in 40 games for the Red Sox this season after missing time with concussion symptoms.

Prior to the beginning of Friday's contest, he was hitting .254/.324/.400 with four home runs and 22 RBIs.
