Now that Euro 2016 is over, West Ham United is preparing to put up the barricades in an effort to retain Dimitri Payet.

The Frenchman was pivotal in his country's run to the tournament's final (where it fell short to Portugal after extra time Sunday) making the best XI in the competition and undoubtedly drawing attention from the continent's biggest clubs.

Talking to BBC Radio 5 Live, West Ham co-owner David Gold revealed tactics that are ongoing to try and keep Payet in Stratford.

"You make him as happy as you can," he said. "He has a great relationship with the manager which is very, very important to a player. He's settled in London with his family, the fans adore him and we're going to the Olympic Stadium.

"We've done everything we possibly could do and I'm hoping that will be enough."

Gold was pressed on what it would take to allow the 29-year-old to leave West Ham, and it turns out it would take an exorbitant fee. Payet cost the Irons around £10.6 million from Marseille last summer.

"The super clubs would come after a player of his ability, and we wouldn't even listen to any offer under £50 million," continued Gold. "And even then we need to keep our best players so, to be absolutely honest with you, we don't welcome any offers at all for Dimitri.

"He's instrumental, he's important to us, the team is built around him, and I would say to you he's not for sale."

In a seamless first season in the English top flight, Payet scored nine goals and laid on two assists. West Ham's first match of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign is at local rival Chelsea on Aug. 15.
