Thursday's Second Baseman Value Rankings
Here are theScore's second baseman value rankings for Thursday, July 21 (all stats exclude Wednesday's games):
Value Rankings
C | 1B/DH | 2B | SS | 3B | OF | SP
Top Options
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Trea Turner (WAS) | vs. LAD | 8 |
Ian Kinsler (DET) | at CWS | 8 |
Howie Kendrick (LAD) | at WAS | 8 |
Turner's place in the lineup isn't always etched in stone despite numerous injuries affecting the roster, but over his last two games, he's collected three hits, a stolen base and two RBIs. Turner will likely lead off against rookie LHP Julio Urias.
While Stephen Strasburg represents a daunting matchup, it helps keep Kendrick's price low in the midst of a hot stretch with 19 hits in his past 10 games. It will be the first matchup between the two.
Kinsler has 13 of his 18 home runs against right-handed pitching, and Chicago's James Shields has been prone to allowing long balls, especially at home.
Mid-Tier Targets
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
Daniel Murphy (WAS) | at LAD | 7 |
Ryan Schimpf (SD) | at STL | 6 |
Dustin Pedroia (BOS) | vs. MIN | 6 |
Murphy will likely play elsewhere in the infield should Turner get the nod at second. He's hitting .321 against his fellow lefties, and he has been on a recent tear despite some injury issues, homering four times in his last nine games and maintaining a 1.341 OPS.
The lefty-batting Schimpf offers a low-cost power threat, with five home runs in 61 at-bats against right-handers. Adam Wainwright has gone eight starts without allowing a long ball, but Schimpf is still inexpensive enough to gamble on.
Nothing to See Here
Name | Opponent | Value |
---|---|---|
DJ LeMahieu (COL) | vs. ATL | 4 |
Jedd Gyorko (STL) | vs. SD | 3 |
Jace Peterson (ATL) | at COL | 2 |
Gyorko has been hot of late in his spotty playing time, but he's priced too highly to feel confident in rostering at anything above a bargain level. Likewise, Peterson has received a Coors Field price bump despite a lack of recent production.
