Burnley adds Pope to goalkeeping ranks

Burnley made its second signing from Charlton Athletic on Tuesday with the acquisition of Nick Pope for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper follows winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson to Turf Moor on a three-year contract, with the Clarets holding the option of an additional year.

Pope, who made 24 league appearances during Charlton's relegation from the Championship last season, will compete with captain Tom Heaton and veteran Paul Robinson for a spot between the sticks.

"I want to develop as a goalkeeper and with the keepers that are already here I definitely feel I can learn from them," said Pope.

"They've both experienced the England set up and it's only a good thing for me to be around them day to day in training and at games. I'm really looking forward to it."

Burnley begins its return to the Premier League with a visit from Swansea City on Aug. 13.
