Middlesbrough has added some firepower with Premier League experience to its ranks, signing Valencia striker Alvaro Negredo to a season-long loan.
The North Yorkshire side formally announced the move Wednesday, with the 30-year-old forward putting pen to paper on a temporary switch with the club making a return to the English top flight after seven years in the second tear. An option to buy at season's end has been included in the move.
No stranger to Premier League football, Negredo enjoyed two seasons at Manchester City following a four-year term with Sevilla. After 70 goals in 139 appearances for the Andalusians, his spell at the Etihad was a decent one.
In 48 appearances with City, Negredo scored 23 times, but became surplus to requirements in an attack-heavy squad that featured the likes of Sergio Aguero, Stevan Jovetic, and Edin Dzeko.
Negredo became the first Manchester City player to score a Champions League hat trick in a 5-2 group stage victory over CSKA Moscow.
That logjam of strikers prompted a loan to Valencia before the deal was made permanent for a reported €28-million fee before the 2015-16 campaign. His form last season with Los Che was far from his best, scoring just five goals in 25 La Liga appearances, starting a dozen times.
