Report: Red Sox inquiring about Sale, Quintana
Dealing Dave Dombrowski might not be done remodeling his Boston Red Sox just yet. And if recent reports are to be believed, his biggest move is still to come.
Dombrowski, who already made four trades in a week earlier this month, is reportedly expressing interest in White Sox lefties Chris Sale and Jose Quintana as Chicago considers whether to sell off its pieces ahead of next week's deadline.
It's unclear how advanced, if at all, discussions are between the Red Sox and White Sox, who are reportedly looking for five top prospects in exchange for Sale, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports.
On Friday, it was reported by MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan the Texas Rangers were making a serious push to acquire Sale, the AL All-Star Game starter and early favorite for this year's Cy Young award. Sale, 27, is especially coveted given his age and team-friendly contract, which calls for an additional $38 million over the next three seasons.
There was no indication that a deal between the Rangers and White Sox was imminent, according to Sullivan.
White Sox general manager Rick Hahn said Thursday his club would stay "open-minded" as the non-waiver trade deadline approaches, but Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reported the team turned down a "king's ransom" for Sale in the previous 48 hours.
Despite dealing highly touted pitcher Anderson Espinoza to the Padres for Drew Pomeranz last week, the Red Sox are still stocked with a farm system that includes some of the top prospects in the game, including Yoan Moncada, Rafael Devers, and Andrew Benintendi.
