Report: Blue Jays contacted A's about Reddick
As the trade deadline draws closer, the Toronto Blue Jays are apparently pursuing more than one Oakland Athletics player, as sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports the two sides have been in contact regarding right fielder Josh Reddick.
The report comes after several weeks of dialogue between the clubs over injured pitcher Rich Hill, who is among the more sought-after names believed to be available prior to Monday's 4 p.m. ET deadline.
As for Reddick, it's unclear how advanced, if at all, discussions are between the Athletics and Blue Jays, who have reportedly attended every Athletics series for the last month scouting the two impending free agents, according to Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Rosenthal reports the Los Angeles Dodgers are also among the teams in the mix for the pair, and have already tried to acquire both in a package deal.
Contract negotiations between Reddick and the Athletics have stalled this year, leading Billy Beane to entertain offers for the 29-year-old right fielder, who's also reportedly drawn interest from the Chicago Cubs.
Reddick, who missed about six weeks after fracturing his thumb, has remained a steady source of production in the middle of the A's lineup, hitting .300/.375/.443 with seven homers and 10 doubles in 65 games this season.
Meanwhile, Hill, a 36-year-old journeyman who resurrected his career late last season with Boston, hasn't pitched since July 17 because of ongoing blister issues, and was placed on the disabled list Saturday. Among the more sought-after names available this summer, Hill owns a team-best 2.25 ERA while averaging 10.7 strikeouts per nine innings in 14 starts.
