Rose refers to Knicks as 'superteam'
Derrick Rose is nothing if not optimistic. As NBA talk centers around the league's latest "superteam" in the form of the Golden State Warriors, the freshly-minted New York Knicks point guard isn't afraid to inject his new squad into the same sentence.
"I mean, with these teams right now, they're saying us and Golden State are the super teams," Rose told NBA.com's Lang Whitaker in the context of what New York's expectations are this season.
Figuring out which people are the ones comparing the Knicks with the Warriors is another story altogether, but Rose can be excused at the very least for being hopeful.
"The expectations I think of us, we just want to win," he added.
Alongside incumbent star Carmelo Anthony, Rose is joined by former Chicago Bulls teammate Joakim Noah on a new-look Knicks squad that would have been a decent bet to contend for the 2011 NBA championship.
Rose's 66 games played last season were the most he's appeared in since that very 2010-11 campaign, and he told NBA.com that he's excited to work with guard-friendly coach Jeff Hornacek, as well as elements of the triangle offense - which by nature of its execution has never relied on a ball-dominant point guard.
"This is the first time I think the triangle will really ever have an athletic point guard in that position," Rose said. "All I have to do is make sure my catch-and-shoot is pretty good with this team, and like I said, be prepared."
