Kings' Gay speaks with Divac, doesn't rule out being traded

Rudy Gay apparently took up Vlade Divac on his offer to call him.

The Sacramento Kings forward said Thursday he spoke with the team's general manager in the wake of some publicly critical comments, and that they're trying to sort out their issues.

"I have talked to Vlade," Gay told Sean Cunningham of ABC10 Sacramento. "I can't say since Monday stuff has changed, but I just feel like we have a little bit of time to start changing things."

It was on Monday when Gay offered a candid portrait of his unhappiness with the Kings organization. Divac then told reporters "he has my number." It's not clear if the conversation actually resolved anything, but Gay wasn't shooting down the idea of being traded on Thursday.

"It feels good that people want you," he said in regard to trade rumors. "I mean, you've got to take the good out of it. At this point in my career I just want to be happy. I talked to Vlade and we're trying to make that happen."

Gay, who turns 30 in three weeks, continued to criticize his experience with the Kings organization, citing the locker room and front office dysfunction that has plagued the team for several seasons.

"Last year, it's like they pulled the carpet out from under me, a little bit," he said. "I felt like I was in jail - like I was hindered. But, I can't sit back and let that happen anymore."

Gay was Sacramento's second-leading scorer at 17.2 points per game in 2015-16. He'll earn $13.3 million this coming season and can opt out of the final year of his contract next summer.
