Report: Heat 'could not even give' Josh McRoberts away

It's been no secret that the Miami Heat have had Josh McRoberts on the block since last season ended, but "quite literally could not even give (him) away", according to sources of the South Florida Sun-Sentinel's Ira Winderman.

McRoberts' name surfaced frequently regarding hopes the Heat had to clear salary cap space, and one of the road blocks the team had in trying to retain Dwyane Wade was their inability to move out the $5.7 million McRoberts is owed this coming season.

There were no takers, and it's understandable why the market for the Duke product is thin. The 6-foot-10 power forward was limited to 42 games in 2015-16, in large part due to a knee injury. In his nine-year career, McRoberts has only played more than 70 games twice.

The Heat signed McRoberts to a four-year contract for their full mid-level exception two summers ago, on the strength of his career 2013-14 season with the then-Charlotte Bobcats. McRoberts can opt out of the final $6 million of the deal next summer. If the Heat waive him, the final two seasons of the contract will count against their cap.
