Kowalkiewicz thinks Jedrzejczyk is 'scared' to fight her

The normally soft-spoken Karolina Kowalkiewicz had some strong words for UFC strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk.

Kowalkiewicz defeated Rose Namajunas at UFC 201 on Saturday in Atlanta to improve to 10-0 in her professional MMA career. At the post-fight press conference, she was asked why it seemed like Jedrzejczyk had dismissed her as a contender in recent interviews.

"I think she's scared," said Kowalkiewicz.

The two previously fought in 2012, an amateur bout that Jedrzejczyk won by submission. Kowalkiewicz sounded eager to avenge the loss and prove that she is the better of the two Polish stars.

"I want to fight Joanna. I am ready for her," said Kowalkiewicz. "She said that I'm not on her level. I think I'm good enough to fight with her. I want to fight with her. Let's do this. Polish power versus Polish power.

"Joanna's a very good fighter. I respect her very much. She's the best in the world. Maybe I'm not the best but I can beat the best."

Appearing on FOX Sports 1 after Saturday's show, UFC president Dana White did not confirm that Kowalkiewicz would get the next crack at Jedrzejczyk, but he agreed that the matchup could be booked at some point.

"It's the one that makes sense," White said, according to Karim Zidan of Bloody Elbow. "But we've got to get back to the office and figure out what to do. I'd love to do that fight in Poland."
