Southampton manager Claude Puel has added to his goalkeeping options with the signing of Alex McCarthy from Crystal Palace for an undisclosed fee.
The shot-stopper has penned a three-year agreement at St Mary's.
McCarthy only joined the Eagles last summer, but failed to nail down a place in the lineup as he amassed just seven league appearances over 2015-16. He also has experience in the Premier League with Reading and Queens Park Rangers.
The 26-year-old will provide competition for Fraser Forster on the south coast.
"Once again, I am delighted to welcome another player to the squad at Southampton," the club's executive director of football Les Reed said.
"We now have two quality English goalkeepers who have both represented the country at international level.
"I am confident that Fraser will soon be England's number one, and in Alex we have a young player who has already had a taste of the England senior squad, as well as excellent experience at Under-21 level."
McCarthy is the third signing of the summer at Southampton, following the arrivals of Nathan Redmond and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Norwich City and Bayern Munich, respectively.
The Saints begin their Premier League campaign against Watford on Aug. 13.
