Andrew Luck not worried about taking 1st big hit since kidney injury
Andrew Luck, along with the rest of the Indianapolis Colts' starters, will see action during the Hall of Fame Game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.
While Luck won't see more than a drive or two, he's all but certain to take the first significant hit since the one against the Denver Broncos last season that lacerated his kidney and ended his year.
The quarterback downplayed it, even suggesting that the first hit will help get him back in a football mindset.
"I haven't thought about the first hit," Luck said, according to ESPN's Mike Wells. "I don't want to make a bigger deal than what it is. You're going to get hit in the game. You get back up and keep playing. There’s something to it that sort of resets the button. You're playing football."
Indianapolis' coaching staff and fan base will likely hold their breath the first time Luck is knocked to the ground after a season in which his importance to the franchise was highlighted by their struggles without him.
However, Luck hadn't missed a start prior to his injuries last season, and doesn't believe he'll be rusty in his first game action in almost nine months.
"I think the OTA period is where you feel rust and getting back to what it feels like getting under center, dropping back in the pocket," Luck said. "Certainly not perfect out there, but I wouldn't say the rusty part. That’s sort of OTAs and minicamp (in the spring)."
