Manchester City announced the signing of Brazilian forward Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras on Wednesday for a reported fee of £27 million plus add-ons, according to the BBC's Simon Stone.
The 19-year-old joins the club on a five-year deal through the summer of 2021. He is currently with Brazil for Rio 2016 but will join the team in January of 2017 instead of at the start of the 2016-17 Premier League campaign on Aug. 13, 2016.
"Manchester City is one of the best clubs in the world so I'm really pleased to sign," Jesus said in a club statement. "We have many great talents in the team and a fantastic manager in Pep Guardiola that I can learn so much from.
"I'm looking forward to showing the City fans what I can do and I think we'll have a great future together!"
Named the "best newcomer" of the 2015 Serie A Campeonato, Jesus garnered plenty of interest in the transfer window, leaving Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain quite pleased with the summer swoop.
"We are delighted that Gabriel has chosen to join us. He is one of the most exciting young prospects in world football and plays the game in a spectacular way. We look forward to him making a big impact at Manchester City in January."
With Palmeiras, Jesus scored 26 goals in 67 first-team appearances. He is Manchester City's fifth major acquisition of the summer window, joining Leroy Sane, Ilkay Gundogan, Nolito and Oleksandr Zinchenko at the Etihad Stadium.
