West Ham United has addressed the left-back void left by Aaron Cresswell's injury with the signing of Arthur Masuaku from Olympiacos.
The 22-year-old signs a four-year contract at the Olympic Stadium, and although a fee was undisclosed, earlier reports suggested it was in the region of £6 million.
Masuaku's arrival could mark a busy spate of transfer activity for the Irons, with the arrival of Swansea City's Andre Ayew seemingly imminent after a £20-million bid was accepted for the forward.
West Ham wrapped up its preseason preparations with a 3-2 loss to Juventus on Sunday, but Masuaku could still be drafted straight into the lineup for Aug. 15's opener at Chelsea in light of Cresswell's four-month layoff with a knee ligament injury. The other players in competition for a left-back berth are various youngsters including highly rated teenager Reece Burke.
"It's a big honour for me to be part of this club," said Masuaku. "I was speaking with my agent about some opportunities, but when he told me about West Ham and also the coach, I didn't think twice, so in my mind, it was West Ham.
"Now, to be able to play with players like Dimitri Payet, I was thinking on the way here, it's going to be crazy! I can't wait to play with him and also all the rest of the team."
Masuaku, a former France youth international, proved himself a consistent performer in the Greek Superleague following his 2014 move from Valenciennes. A valuable asset for his new manager Slaven Bilic will be Masuaku's experience in the Champions League, as West Ham readies for its first foray in the continent's elite competition.
