Watch: Marlins fans salute Ichiro for 3,000 hits
Ichiro Suzuki received a hero's welcome from Miami Marlins fans Monday, one day after becoming the 30th member of baseball's 3,000-hit club.
Pinch-hitting for Jose Fernandez in the sixth inning against San Francisco, Suzuki was honored with a standing ovation before grounding out to second in his only at-bat of the game.
The 42-year-old outfielder made history Sunday when he tripled off Rockies pitcher Chris Rusin during the seventh inning to etch his name in baseball immortality. With one more hit, Suzuki will pass Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente and take sole possession of 29th on the all-time list.
Earlier Monday, it was announced that Suzuki donated his 3K jersey, cleats, arm guard, and batting gloves to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
