Brazilian full-back Fabio da Silva has booked a Premier League return after Middlesbrough secured the services of the 26-year-old on a two-year deal Friday.

Middlesbrough announced the transfer for an undisclosed fee with a statement on its website after weeks of speculation linking the two parties.

Fabio, twin brother of Lyon full-back Rafael, has been with Cardiff City since an underwhelming term with Manchester United ended in 2014.

The Fluminese youth product had one year left on his deal with the south Wales side after a 2 1/2-year spell in which he scored once in 68 appearances. Coincidentally, that goal came against Middlesbrough last season in a 3-1 defeat at the Riverside.

After a seven-year hiatus from the Premier League, Boro boss Aitor Karanka is shopping with the goal of adding to a squad short on Premier League experience.

Veteran shot-stopping duo Brad Guzan and Victor Valdes have been added to the ranks, while former Manchester City striker Alvaro Negredo signed from Valencia on a season-long loan. Joining them at the Riverside are fellow summer recruits Marten de Roon, Viktor Fischer, and Antonio Barragan, along with Gaston Ramirez on a permanent deal.

Karanka and co. kick off their return to top-tier Saturday by hosting Stoke City.
