For his final strokes and kicks in Olympic competition, Michael Phelps is most appropriately golden.
The most decorated Olympian ever added to his prodigious medal haul Saturday at Rio 2016, extending his all-time record with a 23rd gold as the U.S. men triumphed in Saturday's 4x100m medley relay.
Two records were broken in the event to which the Americans remain undefeated. The team of Phelps, Ryan Murphy, Cody Miller, and Nathan Adrian posted an Olympic-best time, while Murphy, who swam the backstroke leg, set a world record in the discipline.
Phelps, who gave the Americans the lead with his butterfly, now has his sixth Olympic medal in Rio, and the 28th honor of his illustrious career.
