Report: Kings interested in Ricky Rubio
Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio is once again the subject of trade rumors.
The Sacramento Kings are reportedly interested in Rubio, and they have been for some time, according to Darren Wolfson of ESPN 1500.
It makes sense that the Kings would be interested given that they only have two point guards on the roster. Darren Collison projects to be the starter, but he's traditionally come off the bench, and he's facing charges of domestic violence. Backing up Collison is Garrett Temple, who is more of a shooting guard.
Rubio, a first-rate facilitator with great vision and an aversion to shooting, would fit in beautifully alongside a high-usage low-post threat like DeMarcus Cousins. Two years ago, Kevin Love enjoyed the best season of his career while feeding off Rubio.
Minnesota isn't necessarily deep at point guard, but they did draft Kris Dunn fifth overall this summer. Reports suggest that the Timberwolves rebuked significant offers from the Chicago Bulls and Philadelphia 76ers in order to retain Dunn. The Timberwolves also reportedly shopped Rubio following the Dunn addition.
It's unclear what the Kings would be willing to send back in a trade for Rubio, but it's well-known that Rudy Gay would like to be traded. A straight-up swap of Gay for Rubio would work under the salary cap.
