Younes Kaboul got his wish Friday, as Watford completed a move for the French defender for a reported £4-million fee.
The 30-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Hornets after informing Sunderland of his desire to leave the club for "personal reasons."
"I'm very happy and delighted to be a part of Watford Football Club, and I'm looking forward to the season," he said in a statement. "Just from outside, I can see it's a family club, there are some good players here and I'm very confident.
"The club had a very good season last year, and we need to carry that on to be even better."
Kaboul, who only joined Sunderland last summer from Tottenham, apparently sought a move back to the London area.
The Guardian's Louise Taylor believes Black Cats manager David Moyes had hopes of keeping Kaboul for the upcoming campaign after his contributions during Sunderland's great escape from relegation. He formed a formidable partnership in the heart of the defence with countryman Lamine Kone, who's also been the subject of transfer rumours.
Kaboul will now offer his Premier League experience to Watford, where he will likely start in manager Walter Mazzarri's back three with Craig Cathcart and Sebastian Prodl.
Watford, which is looking to improve on its previous 13th-place finish in May, hosts Chelsea on Saturday.
