NFL dropping 'probable' injury designation
Chris Humphreys / USA TODAY Sports
The NFL is getting rid of the "probable" injury designation this season, the league confirmed to ESPN.
Per the new policy, the designation has been removed and the remaining classifications have been redefined. Teams will have until two days before kickoff to submit their list of injured players.
"Questionable" players, who were previously defined as having a 50 percent chance of playing, will now be classified by having an "uncertain" status.
"Doubtful" will mean that a player is "unlikely" to play, while "out" means they "will not play."
The New England Patriots, among other teams, have built a reputation of pushing the limits of the injury designation, regularly listing players as "probable" or "questionable" with clearly playable injuries.
