Jose Mourinho's tenure at Manchester United has its latest casualty, as promising young defender Tyler Blackett has signed a permanent three-year deal with Championship side Reading.

Reading announced the news Monday with a statement on its website, as one former United defender will now be under the tutelage of another, with Dutch legend Jaap Stam taking the Royals' managerial appointment in June.

"As we know, Tyler is a talented defender who has played for United’s first team. He can play as a left-back or a left-sided centre-back; he has got great potential in the sense that he is quick and athletic, defensively he is strong, and he is good at set-pieces," Stam said about Blackett.

"As a defender he can go and play high up the pitch as well, and that is what we need in the squad."

Blackett, 22, is the latest member of a prodigious core at Old Trafford that has been shown the door. He leaves United just hours after fellow defender Cameron Borthwick-Jackson penned a season-long loan deal with Wolves.

Joining Blackett amid a summer rife with departures are Paddy McNair, Adnan Januzaj, and Donald Love, while James Wilson and Guillermo Varela have been handed season-long loans to Derby and Eintracht Frankfurt, respectively.

After a breakthrough 2014-15 campaign at United, much was expected of the Manchester-born defender after impressing then-gaffer Louis van Gaal during the preseason. He made his debut during an opening-weekend tilt with Swansea City before making 10 more first-team appearances.
