Watch: Betts makes remarkable throw to gun down Kiermaier
Kevin Kiermaier learned the hard way not to test Mookie Betts' arm.
With the Boston Red Sox leading 2-1 in the eighth inning Tuesday, the Tampa Bay Rays outfielder tried to stretch his hit into a triple.
Bad idea.
Betts made an impressive throw from foul ground in deep right field to get Kiermaier at third base, which proved to be huge, as the Red Sox held on to win.
"I didn't know I could really do that," Betts told reporters following the game. Teammate David Ortiz added some pretty strong praise, saying it was "one of the best throws he's ever seen."
Afterward, Kiermaier wanted to know who robbed him of extra bases. He admitted he was in complete disbelief when he found out.
"(I was) in shock over there at third base how I got thrown out. I watched the video, saw (Betts) made an absolutely perfect throw," Kiermaier said.
