Hart selected for potential farewell vs. Steaua Bucharest

Joe Hart has been named in Pep Guardiola's starting XI for the first time in a competitive match for Wednesday's visit of Steaua Bucharest.

England's shot stopper has been cast off by the new manager amid suggestions that he's unimpressed with Hart's footwork, with Claudio Bravo's arrival seemingly imminent and Willy Caballero appearing to be second choice.

Reports have suggested that Everton and Borussia Dortmund are interested in Hart, meaning there's a chance the midweek Champions League play-off could be the last occasion the net-minder wears a City shirt.

Hart joined City from his hometown club Shrewsbury Town in 2006 and, after gaining experience up the rungs of English football at Tranmere Rovers, Blackpool, and Birmingham City, inherited a spot between the sticks at the Etihad Stadium from Shay Given in 2010.

But now, following six years of being first-choice for club and country, Guardiola has handed Hart a potential farewell in a match where City already possesses a 5-0 advantage from the first leg. The Spanish manager made controversial decisions upon taking the helms of Barcelona and Bayern Munich, and has now risked the wrath of City fans who, over the past few years, have sung a popular terrace chant warning of a riot should Hart be sold.

City's next commitments after the midweek tilt come in a visit of West Ham United on Sunday, but Bravo could be ready to take over goalkeeping duties by then.
